Social Media has drastically changed the way that we communicate
in our daily lives. The way in which we
spread news, stay in touch with old friends, or start an online movement all
involve some type of social media interaction.
News: I can’t tell you how often I read into some
crazy news story about something that happened around the world that I would
have never came across if it weren’t for social media. One example is the Newsfeed on facebook. Some days it’s filled with pictures and
events of things that your friends and family are doing, and depending on whom
you subscribe to or follow/like you are subject to stories that they post. Another social media platform that I use
quite a bit is news apps, such as CNN, FOX, and CSNBC. Each morning I read at least on article on
each app to have something to talk about with people at work or school that
day. Due to social media, newspapers and
magazines aren't the only way we can communicate. Now news can travel instantaneously this can
be great, but also destructive as well.
Keeping in Touch: Social media has made it much easier to
reconnect with past friends, family, and co-workers. When I first installed the facebook app or
Instagram, I immediately had friend suggestions and people who I recognized
show up on pictures or by liking something similar to me. I have lived in 3 different cities the past 3
years and I have been able to hold my relationships long term and stay updated
with what my previous acquaintances are doing.
It is also great for business.
Communicating ideas through social media has helped me multiple times in
my career.
Online Movements: With Social Media that channel that one
person used to have to go through to be heard is much easier. One can simply post a video on controversial
subjects like climate change, drunk driving, or feminism. They can obtain a following, and find support
for their cause by using social media.
Hey Blake, I think your take on social media change is very direct and contemporary to our generation. Very straightforward application of the topic.
