Blogging and Business



Many people are wondering how a blog can help a business be more successful.  According to an article in Business Week magazine, Stephen Baker states “Given the changes barreling down upon us, blogs are not a business elective, they’re a prerequisite.”  Think of the implications for a business getting an up-to-the-minute read on what the world is thinking.  I’ll use Snapple as an example. Let’s say the company airs an advertisement, through blogs, the company can track responses to their advertisements. They can find the niche that they are looking for and also see what is trending for the time being.   Jeff Weiner, Yahoo’s senior vice-president who heads up search says, “Never in the history of market research has there been a tool like this.”  Not only are blogs good for big business, many citizens throughout the world have built brands just simply by starting their own blog from home.

One interesting blog that I ran into while doing a research project about the company Snapple, which you can view on this website (http://mysnapplerealfacts.blogspot.com) on this author’s blog, it list nearly a thousand facts that Snapple products contain beneath their lids.  An interesting thing about this blog is that it includes, “Fact Busters” facts that Snapple has used under their caps, but are untrue.  They back up each “fact” that isn’t true by listing tested resources.  Snapple could use this information as a marketing strategy to better check the “facts” before they introduce them under the cap.  Something as simple as stating that a few words under a lid are fact, when truly they are not, could have a significant impact on the credibility of a company.  If I read something from a multimillion dollar company and find out that they didn’t even take their time to research whether what they are putting on their product is actually factual, I probably wouldn’t invest in it unless the returns were significant, which in Snapple’s case is extremely untrue as their bubble of success popped years ago.

  4. Hey Blake, I like your post because of the perspective you used, blogging can be beneficial to the business industry. In addition, I didn't know that some of the facts Snapple had under the lids were not accurate.
